CARL WALKER attended college at Wayne University, in Detroit, MI. His first experience in brakes started in 1967, with Raybestos, as a laboratory technician. For two years, he helped develop friction materials for a variety of applications, from cars to aircraft. In 1969, he was promoted to Original Equipment (OE) sales and marketing. Five years later, Carl became Chief Field Engineer of the Grey Rock division of Raybestos, where he began to train and promote technical services. In this capacity, his group became renowned for writing and teaching about the fundamentals of proper brake maintenance.
This included "monthly" publications and news letters about brake issues, including the ever-unpopular FMVSS 121, air brake standard. Carl was one of the few outspoken industry people who openly opposed this government air brake regulation. In 1989 Carl was inducted into the ASA National Softball Hall of fame Member. In 1982, he took a position as Director of Technical Service for P.T Brake, which later became Brake Technology. During his seven years at this organization, he was successful in marketing "Ferrablok", which was an asbestos, combination friction, until non-asbestos products were mandated. Shortly thereafter, they developed a non-asbestos equivalent, "Magnum Plus", which became the industry's standard of excellence, for asbestos-free brake blocks. The company was purchased by Echlin (now Dana), and the facility was relocated to Prattville, AL.
Tenneco Automotive decided to get into the friction material business, so they purchased two facilities: passenger car and heavy duty. The two divisions were renamed Tenneco Brake. An industry-first was developed at their HD branch in the form of INTEGRABLOK. This product was developed solely for transit and has been the most widely used friction product in transit. This product resolved the transit "noisy brake" issues, while providing excellent performance characteristics.
In October, 2003 Carl joined American Moving Parts (AMP) as Manager of Transit. This change reunited Carl, Jay and Tony as the three "Braketeers". AMP and the three Braketeers are ready to serve you.
